These can bring improved hardware support, especially if you have a new PC with hardware that wasn’t even released when Ubuntu 14.04 came out back in April, 2014. More importantly, the point releases come with an updated “LTS Hardware Enablement Stack.” Specifically, this means a more modern Linux kernel and X server.

After all, this is mostly a formality and everyone who keeps the system updated won't have to do anything extra. It's not like everyone was watching the date in order to be sure the point update lands on time. This small delay won't be really felt by the Ubuntu community. Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS delayed until February 19 It was all because of the kernel, but some of the HWE components were a little bit late and they needed to properly integrate and test them. The Ubuntu devs have their hands full right about now, with the launch of Ubuntu Touch and the upcoming launch of Ubuntu 15.04, so it's not really a surprise that they had to postpone. As a matter of fact, the delay happened for Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, which is the second point release for the latest LTS. It's really rare to see a delay, but they wouldn't have done it unless it was really important. We don't get to write this kind of news about Ubuntu because most of the Ubuntu launches have occurred right on time.
The same happened with the Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS release which is delayed for a couple of weeks. The Ubuntu launch date are usually set in stone, but from time to time we might see some of them delayed.
